Artist Statement
I am interested in the process of decision making since we all
face many choices everyday as human beings. I make a choice of
one or the other. I make a choice and realize that it doesn't
always turn out as I expected. I run away from a choice and soon
I find myself facing the same choice yet again. Many times I seem
to be caught in a loop, always coming back to the same place and
the same time no matter which choice I make. The harder I try
to get away, the more entangled I find myself in the midst of
thousands of choices. I wonder if I will spend my life agonizing
which choice to make when there is, in reality, only one choice
and I am too blind and too distracted to realize this. One decision
leads to another as one pencil stroke determines the direction
of the next. Every choice influences the ones that follow, regardless
of whether or not I choose. No single choice stands alone. A choice
that's been made and a choice that's overlooked coexist and together
they balance out to become a whole. These choices are represented
as doors in my drawings. As time goes on, the image becomes less
important and solely the act of decision-making survives.
